Week 1 Exchange

So this is the view outside lovely room in Groningen - It is pronounced Groughnighen (with a cough after the G)....sort of...I suspect the Dutch would disagree. I am here on an Exchange programme with a university in London.
Why this city you may ask. Well....I'm not entirely sure why I chose it at first, but I wont lie, I think it came down to availability, and now what I will argue is fait.
Groningen, The Netherlands is somewhere no one would ever think of visiting. Yes Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague, I'm sure just as lovely, may not have quite the same atmosphere as this cosy little city.

The city has a population that is dominated by students, so if your a student and looking for a great nightlife Groningen definitely has this to offer.

I chose to do an exchange because, travelling and experiencing different cultures is a passion of mine. Studying in another country, I don't believe is an opportunity one should pass up. So if you have it...take it. My first week here, has introduced me to the lifestyle of the Dutch. The most important thing you need to do - get a bike. This is not optional. It's the way to travel, no other form of transport is neccessary. I.e. you ride to and back from uni, from shopping, and from your nights out....no matter how pissed you may be. It's just the way. So if your not into that....maybe Groningen isn't the place for you.

I'm writing a weekly blog on my experiences here, and the people I am living with....and for those of you who are aware of the Dutch policy on pot. No, I have not been getting high everyday. In fact the nice thing about it being legal....there's less of an incentive to do it....tell that to the UK government!

So Click here to see what ESN Groningen has to offer.
