The Lake

So it's the start of my second week in Groningen, and it's beginning to feel like home here. My course hasn't started yet, and I haven't met a single soul who is studying the same course as me. My accommodation is filled with those attending Groningen University i.e. the university ranked 80 in the world. Me - studying at Hanze university (the less well-ranked university, as I am nicely putting it), make me feel quite inadequate to the intellect of the people around me. Law, Medicine, Psychology, and Economic students, who pretty much make me look stupid....and I couldn't be happier to live with all of them. Obviously the university difference doesn't matter, but as my university is double the distance from Martini House (the name of my accommodation - too cool), there is pretty much no one else who lives here that studies at Hanze....So, i'm quite skeptical about who I may meet on my course, but none-the-less looking forward to meeting them!

From my previous experiences of travelling, I met plenty of people....or should I say boys. It was different as I was travelling with one girl (my closest friend) Meiju. As one can imagine, two girls one brunette, one blonde, draw some attention...and not much to the same sex. Living in another country, is definitely not the same as travelling through several different countries.
I didn't know what to expect, but as it's so international here, and there are so many students people are very welcoming, and treat you like family straight away.

Someone once said to me, it may be the hype that happens around the beginning of a semester when everyone firsts meet they feel they have to act different to impress. I think this is true of first year students maybe 18 or 19 who still have lots to discover about themselves, but as you move into your twenties, I think you begin to have an understanding of people and yourself. Everyone is on the path to self discovery, but we are clearer about our goals when we're that little bit older...perhaps not much wiser. Here, the students are at least 20, and most 23 years old, I can instantly tell the students are more mature here, that in the UK - of a similar age!

Oh, and I almost forgot about the Lake. Pretty self explanatory don't you think.

Signing off -  until next time.
